Petey Green, some would call him Wize

Today, we have a young MC by the name of Wize, quite ironic eh?  Once again we have a lesser known talent, who’s making moves and gaining notoriety as more get the opportunity to hear his music. We recently got the opportunity to catch up with Wize and see what’s good with him and his future in our interview. Check it out!

wzFirst and foremost, I’d like to thank you for doing this interview and look forward to hearing more material from you and collaborations with the fam.

So you’re in the music game, what’s the reason behind you wanting to become an MC?

The reason behind me wanting to become an MC? Self expression..that’s it..self expression, I’ve always been a writer and now I’m actually able to convey some of the ways I feel through music. I’m very creative and sometimes I feel like people might not understand me, but through music it’s a lot easier to get the message across.

How long have you known you had what it took to put out legit tracks and who recognized your talents?

That’s a real good question, but what really solidifies you have what it takes to put out “legit tracks”? Because a lot of dudes we hear these days they sound like they should NEVER be rapping.I just feel like I have a story that hasn’t been told. Like a lot of rappers these days, may have the flow, the delivery. and the lyrics..but their story is some shit..They have nothing to talk about..so yea, but the guy who really recognized my talents is now my manager, my cousin put me on to him a few years ago..Dude was his mentor at Morehouse College and he’s very business savvy, and he made me believe we could take it a step further..we been working ever since.

What’s the story behind the stagename Wize?

I’m the smartest mafucka you know!!! *laughs* sike naw, I grew up watching this independent film called “Streetwise”, it’s a movie about the streets of D.C. where I’m from. I actually used it as my first unofficial mixtape title. Ever since then I dropped the “street” on it and I became Wize. Old heads and people in general have always told me I’m wise beyond my years, so I felt like it describes me best a person/artist. Not to mention is easy to remember..

Aside from music, what’s one of your most favorite hobbies?

Aside from music? there’s something else besides music? *ha* one of my favorite hobbies is playing basketball since that was my first love before the music..so whenever I get a chance to get an open run in that’s what I’m doing..

One artist you’d love to collab with and why?

Honestly, it would be a dream come true to collaborate with is Stevie Wonder cuz that’s who I grew up listening to because of my father’s love for his music and him sharing that with me. Stevie’s like a freak of nature when it comes to making music so I know we would come up with something crazy given the opportunity to work together..he’s my favorite artist of any genre by the way.

What’s your take on the music that you make and direction you’re looking to go in?

The music I make is the testament of my life, which includes everything from the ups-and-downs, to the things I grew up on, the things I see around me happening everyday, to the values my family and community instilled in me. I just try to paint a picture of everything and give it to you through music.

How has the area you were raised in influenced the music you create?

The area’s I grew up in influences my music 100%, it is my music..because it is me.. not only the area I grew up in but the people I grew up around as well. I grew up in Southeast, DC(Benning Rd./Hanna Place) until I was 15 years old and then I moved out ATL. I feel like I have an advantage on a lot of artist from my city because God allowed me to see past the city, whereas a lot of people where I’m from have never left. I feel like it gives me balance to be able to relate to more than just hood niggas. and that’s a blessing in itself, because hip-hop is loved by all types of different people across the world..and I feel like I can to all those people through the diversity in my music.

What’s one quotable from any genre of music that describes you or that you keep close to you in life?

Ima highlight something my mans G.o.D. Jewels said on Glory or Death since that’s what I’ve been listening to a lot recently. He said “With friends like mine who the fuck needs enemies?” on a song that I’m actually featured on called “All The Way Around”..that’s a truthful rhetorical question basically saying in this life you can’t depend on everybody, but you can control your own actions to not disappoint yourself..Ya’ll be sure to check that mixtape/album out too..best project of ’09 for me thus far.

What have you been working on lately and what’s coming up for you in the future?

I’ve been working on quite a few projects lately.. Writing and recording my album called “Definition of Classic” to be released at the end of the year around December, but before that I will have two mixtapes coming your way, that I won’t give too many details on yet, but stay tuned, because they will be on your head before you know it. I was supposed to be touring this summer with National Talent Search but that has been postponed due to funding and shit.. So for now, I’m just getting the music together.. and trying to create a buzz naturally..

Do you believe the state of the music industry is in a condition where new artists like yourself could thrive?

Definitely, the state of the music industry will never determine how far I can go personally..There are so many outlets to distribute your music independently. The hard part is just standing out and I feel like with my next few projects my music will stand out in this era of cliche’ rappers all trying to do the same thing to get on..Ima go left til there’s nothing left of me..*laughs* And I appreciate blogs such as LifeHasNoScript for taking the time to speak to me and allowing me to share what I have to offer. Life has no script, so everyday I continually write my own.. Thank You!! Once again, thanks for the interview and I look forward to collaborating in the future

Second Chances

Take a look at this picture

Sometimes we must cross bridges in order to get to our dreams and at times, it may seem scary, but everyone  has to cross a certain bridge sometime in their life.

Each day that you take a step, is another day where your footprint can be cemented in history forever.

Let’s stop and think about the title for a second, “Second Chances“. Many thoughts may have come to you when you think of second chances, but think about how many second chances YOU have gotten.

Isn’t every day that you wake up alive, a new chance at life? – Stick with me here people

Suppose yesterday was bad for you and you couldn’t wait to get that day over and move on to today, right?

The common phrase may have ran through your head, “today is better than yesterday,” because you wanted another chance to have a better day.

Now that we are more than likely on the same page, let’s get into the substance of this topic.

We all have made our mistakes and wished that we could correct them with a second chance, but many believe that you should not regret, only to learn from your mistakes. I mean that’s the way we can’t help, but to feel at times, because of the harsh reality of not being able to go back in time and correct our wrongs. In a lot of respects, the belief that we should just learn and not regret, is often the best choice we can make. I happen to be a firm believer in what you do tomorrow can overshadow what you did today and days past.  Seriously, you only live once and the time that we do have, really isn’t much help if we’re spending so much time trying to relive past mistakes and make ammends. The stress that one puts into their errors deprives from the effort that they put into their future.

You may have been in a bad situation, maybe a bad relationship, that went wrong or ended because of something you did. Well, you can apologize but the sad truth is that, it’s done and you can only become a better person for that. I will be discussing at length, “second chance relationships,” later on.  I often find others and even myself stressing the  past so much, that we tend to forget what’s ahead of us. As I always have to tell myself repeatedly, “in any efforts or goals that we set out for ourselves, everything requires patience.”

You know – “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. It didn’t fall in one single day either.

If you are at a point in your life and you feel as though nothing is going right for you, just remember that life takes patience and that tomorrow is always a new chance for you to do something great, despite what you may think.

In closing, I’m going to leave you with one of my favorite quotes.

“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”  – Mother Teresa

…until we meet again

Breaking News: Glory or Death – G.o.D Jewels is Here!

What you have been waiting on

..is here

-Click To Download-

The much anticipated Glory or Death mixtape by the Chicago Bully, G.o.D Jewels, has finally dropped after what seemed like a Detox type release date haha. My dude Jewels really brought Midwest lyricism to the forefront of his tape with this effort and it is only the beginning of his career. Southside Chicago was well represent by G.o.D and this tape will lockdown the summer, boosting his fanbase and garnering the attention that this artist deserves. At a time where most mixtapes are composed of recycled beats and generic rhymes, Glory or Death delivers with the smooth production and its message of success or bust. The features are definitely on point and you can really tell that he’s a student of the game. If you haven’t had the chance to tune your ears to GoD Jewels’ music, you’re in for some real hip hop with wordplay that rivals some of the top talents in the game. He’s not finished either, he’s got a ton of support with the grassroute efforts of , looking to command the respect of those  true hiphop heads, who still hold lyricism in high regards. The follow up, Greatness Opens Doors, is as the title says, ’nuff said.

Another rant? Touche

Bad guys or good guys?

Being around them too much

Seems as though that as soon as you get out of high school, life just flies by. They never said it’d be fair, but damn, can we at least go the speed limit?

You know how every damn city to itty bitty community in America has a speed limit or an unspoken one, but what is life’s speed limit? Think about it once again, life TRULY has no script. They don’t hand you one when you’re born or when you become of age, you must create your own, but God DOES look at your script when it’s over right? Just a little food for thought, to be elaborated on at another time.

Isn’t it so mind-boggling how some see success at a younger age and others at an older age? We take a look at those few who did receive success earlier in life, then we take a glance at the economy, and its like how does one achieve success at a time like this?! It’s hard to be optimistic at a time like this when you could actually graduate with a college degree, and still not be able to find employment. After seeing the shambles that is our less than opportunistic economy, you have to think about the effect it could have on relationships and the pursuit of relationships. Many at this point in life, are possibly strugging to stay above water and want someone who they can depend on to keep their spirits up. I mean you really can’t blame anyone for wanting to find someone who has a plan to become financially stable, but at the samme time, you must make sure that person in genuine and the mutual wants for your own and their success.

I do understand that it is indeed tough, realizing that everyday there is an increase of relationships started, which aren’t legit. What I mean by not being legit, is that that they wre started for all the wrong reasons and are not functioning as a true relationship should. Personally, I would want someone who is ambitious and goal oriented as well, but I do want someone who I know will be there for me at the lowest points and highest points in my life. The best act of kindness or support many of us could do for one another, is not something that is readily seen as, “oh I should just do this”. It just so happens to be a small act known as, encouragement. It’s extremely tough right? Haha! The friends and family that we have can give you some of the most inspiring words of encouragement, look to them for guidance because often, it’s easier for us to listen to others than take our own advice. People who view things from an outside perspective, more than likely can tell you more about yourself than you could. With your relationships and relationship pursuits, remember that in times like these, we must continue to have that patience and realize that “good things comme to those who wait”.

The smallest act of kinddness could make a person’s day that much better and I can definitely attest. I might hear someone tell me, “you can do it, I know it,” and I might be energized off of that for a good while. For those special to you, the phrase “I love you” can more than do the trick and it couldd make you feel better. One thing that we must always remember is that tomomrrow is never promised and I couldd never stress it enough, so I hope to have left you with some good and positive thoughts. ;)

Life’s a blur..

Wow, I haven’t gotten the chance to write in quite a while so I have a lot to say.

Take a look at this picture. – Everything around him is in motion, but he’s at a standstill. You ever feel like that before? Life’s just hustling and bustling around you, but you’re not moving. Have you ever had a relationship where it felt like you were just going through the motions and didn’t realize anything till after it ended?

It’s amazing how we can go through so much on a day to day basis and not even be aware of it.

First and foremost, I’d like to say that life is not guranteed and any day could be your last, so cherish every moment that you live and write a script that’s worth writing.

 IT IS  A BLUR

Now that I got that off of my chest, today I would like to briefly rant about a couple of situations that I have personally been through to give you a better perspective on how I view things.

I have been through my fair share of relationships and have always tried to conduct myself in a mature manner and be the gentleman my mom raised me to be, but every situation doesn’t permit that persona to be displayed. I used to be a guy that wanted to have as many options as possible, I still am to a certain extent, but allow me to explain it further.

In any relationship, we come to understand that there will ALWAYS be something that your partner does or a trait that they may have, which you will not agree with or like. I would like to call myself a very open minded and accepting person, so I allow things to slide by that I may or may not like because I understand that we as people, are individuals. I find that a lot of people are attracted to those who their initial instincts say that they shouldn’t date. Is it the chase or the prospect of changing them that draws more attention? – It will be discussed at a later time.

My last major relationship ended on a sour note, due to the lack of communication and the constant presence of my partner, therefore being around each other too much and not learning enough about ourselves in separate. I will discuss the idea of being around each too much in my next blog, but trust me, it can DEFINITELY be a bad thing.  For a time period, I was completely turned off relationships due to the pessimistic feeling after having a rough breakup.

Relationships allow you to learn more about yourself than most situations do, so I can honestly say that I have learned from my mistakes and have done wrong. I allowed myself to become so absorbed into a relationship that I changed as a person. I learned that I do put a lot of emotion into relationships, which is a good thing, but it can be the straw that broke the camel’s back too. A lot of the times, we like to set double standards subconsciously and won’t realize it till after the relationship has ended. A key part of succeeding in a relationship is realizing your actions as they happen, which in today’s relationships, I find that this aspect is seriously lacking.

Sincerely, there is too many excuses being thrown around along the lines of, “I should’ve realized what I was doing, when I was doing”. I know you have either experienced this first hand or have heard of this happening and just shook your head.  Pitiful, right? How many chances are people expecting to get in life? Third time’s the charm?!

People do not want to take responsibilities for their actions or words anymore and are so absorbed in being like everyone else that they are less inept to recognize their own faults or relationship’s faults.

The phrase “you never know what you have, until it’s gone” is so fitting for our generation and the basic problems that we seem to encounter in our lives and relationships.

Once again, I’ll be discussing in length the idea of being around your boyfriend or girlfriend next, so check it out.

…Until we meet again
